Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr Ramadhan Mlinga told a press conference in Dar es Salaam that some of the procurements effected by some public institutions have no value for money indicating corruption.

He was speaking after PPRA embarked on educational programme with the theme ‘PPRA Partnership with Public’ to be aired through various TV stations for eight months. The TV stations which will air the programme are TBC, ITV and Star Tv.

Dr Milinga said the objectives of the programme is to educate the public on PPRA’s responsibilities in monitoring and ensuring compliance with public procurement law and procedures including the operation of the procurement sector in general.

“The programme will educate the public about PPRA’s responsibilities and its contributions in saving public funds that could otherwise have been lost through breach of procurement law and procedures,” he said.

PPRA CEO said the programme is also aimed at educating the public about the challenges in implementing the Public Procurement Act of 2004 in the country, saying the programme would also inform the public on the weakness that were observed and which contributed to the repeal of the Act.

“The public needs to understand that the establishment of PPRA was part of the strategies to improve the procurement sector in the country with the objective of introducing a public procurement system that is transparent, competitive and which can guarantee value for money and accountability in public,” he said.
